Description: Quantitative development and vertical distribution of the peridinium alga Exuviaella cordata Оstf. and diatom Cerataulina bergonii Perag. in the Western part of the Black Sea in the summer period of 1978-1980 was described. «Water bloom» caused by outbreaks of these algae development took place in the surface layer of the North-Western shelf. Enlargement of the sea area enveloped by water bloom and an increase in the maximal values of the quantity of algal cells is marked. Causes which induced this phenomenon as well as its aftereffects are discussed.
