Description: Partial sequences of 28S rRNA gene (1230 bp length) were studied for four species of the genus Gonocerca - G. crassa Manter, 1934, G. phycidis Manter, 1925, G. muraenolepisi Paruchin et Ljadov, 1979, G. oshoro Shimazu, 1970. Phylogenetic trees were built using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian inference methods. All examined specimens united into single clade, and inside of it they differentiated into four groups of a species level. The clade of Gonocerca species has no straight phylogenetic relations with none of the representatives of seven families of hemiuroid trematodes, data on which are deposed in GenBank. We are raising the taxonomical status of Gonocercinae Skrjabin et Gushanskaja to the family level - Gonocercidae Skrjabin et Gushanskaja, 1955.
